*giggle giggle*
Candi's father grinned. Candi knew exactly what that grin meant. They both crouched down, one foot in front of the other. They raced to the kitchen, sprinting as fast as their legs would allow them. Stan reached the kitchen first, then turned around and caught Candi, raising her over his head, then bringing her down into his arms. "I love ya, squirt," he said with a smile.
"Stan... don't encourage such ill behavior in that girl. She's wild enough as it is," complained Candi's mother. But you could see the smile in her eyes. She was a petite woman, thin from constantly working around the house. Her name was Samantha. Though aging, she was fit and still pleasant to look at. Her long black hair, pinned up tightly into a neat bun, was hightlighted with grey. She turned to flip the eggs on the frying pan.
"Sorry Sammy. I was just playing with her," said Stan. He pulled his chair out from the table and sat down with a huff. "That race just about took the wind out of me," he said laughingly. "I'm not as young as I used to be, ya know? Old popsy's getting..." he paused. "...old."
Candi giggled. "No Daddy, you're just out of shape. It has nothing to do with your age," Candi joked. She blushed slightly, wondering if she'd offended her dear father, but he smiled.
Her mother laughed quietly from the kitchen and then cleared her throat. "Now now Candi, mind your manners," she said, doing her best to seem stern. But no matter how she tried, she couldn't keep from smiling. "It was rather comical though, wasn't it?" she said warmly.
"So, are you fixed to leave for the big trip this morning?" Candi's father asked. "We'll be leaving soon after breakfast, so you'd best have your things in order."
"My things are in order, but I'll have to fix my hair up a bit. I pinned it up in a bit of a hurry this morning," Candi answered. "I am very excited though."
"I think your hair looks just fine," said Samantha as she walked into the dining room. Candi responded with a blank stare. She was shocked. "I think the curls around your face are very complimenting. You look very nice this morning."
Candi smiled through her confusion and thanked her mother for the compliment. She glanced over to the kitchen to see what they were to eat; sausage, eggs, and biscuits. There would be no pancakes on that morning, but Candi didn't seem to mind. Today was already the best day she'd had in years, with or without pancakes.
Well, that's all I have for now. As usual, I will work on it again later. We're still in that awkward, setting up the character as to better understand the plot, stage. I promise it will get more exciting. This concludes my post. God bless you, and farewell.
