Shouldn't each life be sacred?
Yesterday, I went to the moving wall. It's a travelling memorial for the men who have died or who are still missing in action. It was jaw-dropping how many names were displayed. I hadn't even heard of anyone listed on the wall, so I didn't cry or feel any tragic emotion because of it, but it made me think. Those people were willing to give up their lives for their country, and we hardly take the time to glance at their names. I know that I didn't read through each name. Every once in a while one would catch my eye, because their name was particularly funky. Other than that, nothing. I felt so... heartless. These people who have died in war, who were brave enough to fight, who left their families behind... I hardly think twice about them. What's tragic is how we take for granted the lives of these soldiers. To me, they were just jumbled letters of the alphabet. To someone else, they were a husband, a son, a father, a friend. I can't even begin to express how deeply that thought hurts me. And as I walked by those names, completely ignorant to the lives led by those listed, I felt honored. In the presence of a memorial of such honorable people, I should. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is... thank-you to all who have served, or those of you who are willing to serve at some point in the future. I wish I could join the military, but I don't think they'd let me in considering my health. I love our country, but sometimes we take each individual life for granted. Each life is sacred...
God bless everyone!

Everyones life is a sacred thing. This is the aspect of life we do not fully grapse. We see on T.V. of how many people may die, we may see how many people we may see on the wall but we don't fully realize who they may be. The only way we would have realized of who they may be, is either they would be our relatives, or someone important or famous. We grief fully at our loved ones, but we honestly care nothing about those who die that we don't know. After looking at what you have said, I thought about this for a moment. We cannot feel heartless for every single person that has died, they wouldn't have wanted that. They would have wanted you to realize what they have done for their country, to perhaps even save you. So instead of thinking you may be heartless, think instead of what you may do in the future to help those who have given their life for their country, and for each and everyone of us. Jimmy is quite right on his comment. You do not have to join the Military to help this country. You can join a certain type of rescue squad given your current condition even. As long as you help this country even a little bit, it helps those who have given their life for it. As long as you remember that you love your country and that you love life and believe it is sacred, and contribute somehow to our country, then you yourself can be considered honorable to other people as well.
